Wellness Wednesday – Finding Joy In Tea

Wellness Wednesday written by Kathy

I love coffee. I can casually sip a hot cup of coffee all day. I think the joy in my cup of Joe comes more from the sweetness of the creamer and sugar I’ve add as well as having something warm to sip throughout the day. I find comfort, and tend to relax, when I’m holding a hot cup of coffee.  It brings me back to those days of just hanging around in college, no responsibilities outside school work and social lives.  As much as I love it, I know this habit isn’t a great one for me. It keeps me up at night and leaves me with a surge of caffeine late in the day that I do not need. I already have a terrible time sleeping! I’ve been trying really hard to change out my afternoon delight with a simple cup of caffeine-free tea. I’ve explored a few flavors but keep coming back to Turmeric. My new favorite, Trader Joe’s Organic Turmeric and Ginger Herbal Tea. I add a drop of honey for sweetness and have been completely satisfied. In addition to eliminating the extra dairy, sugar and caffeine post lunch; turmeric has several health benefits.

According to Organicfacts.net, Turmeric Ginger Tea eliminates inflammation, increases cognition, strengthens the immune system, and eases gastrointestinal distress. Turmeric and ginger lower cholesterol levels and have benefits that help settle the stomach and promote healthy digestion.

I’ve researched the benefits of turmeric for my aging dog and his arthritis and at one time gave it to him daily. He had more energy, I noticed quite a difference. It had also been suggested to me when I injured my shoulder and was suggested to my mom for her joint issues. It seems to be the ‘go to’ for most joint and arthritis aliments.
As I continue my new ‘habit’ of a cup a day, I’ll let you know if I notice any physical benefits. Regardless, the elimination (or reduction, I’m not perfect!) of my post lunch caffeine and sugar intake is enough of a benefit for me! We’d love to hear about your experience with Turmeric and whether or not you’ve enjoyed any of the mentioned benefits.
